[Hobby] Traveling to Egypt

I love traveling because it allows me to encounter diverse people, their preferences, cultures, and passions. My two visits to Egypt, however—one as a tourist exploring iconic landmarks and the other as a self-driving adventurer—revealed two vastly different worlds. The former showcased the grandeur and prosperity of ancient civilization; the latter exposed me to the struggles and resilience of contemporary Egyptians, grappling with poverty and survival. The juxtaposition of a mysterious and profound historical legacy against the vivid realities of present-day lives reminds me of the importance of looking beyond grand narratives to truly see the individuals whose lives unfold within them.

Design Mindset:

1. This reflection compels me to question whether modern technology is designed to equitably serve all people, or if it is primarily driven by profit motives. Too often, technology exacerbates existing injustices—perpetuating prejudice, sexism, racism, and systemic violence. As designers, we must embrace inclusive design principles, ensuring our creations uplift marginalized communities and actively counteract harm.

2. Before striving for higher-order spiritual experiences or groundbreaking social developments, we must first prioritize meeting basic needs and fostering social wellness. In design thinking, this means adhering to Maslow's hierarchy of needs, where addressing foundational concerns—such as accessibility, equity, and well-being—lays the groundwork for meaningful progress in technology and society.
