I have a deep and abiding fascination with artificial flowers, each one in the picture either crafted or arranged by my own hands. To me, romance is the pursuit of things that carry no practical utility beyond the joy they inspire. In the natural world, flowers serve their purposes—spreading seeds, bearing fruit—but we humans are drawn to recreate them not for what they do, but for what they mean. In their crafted stillness, they are unburdened by nature’s pragmatism, existing purely for beauty’s sake, a quiet rebellion against utility.

Design Mindset: This philosophy aligns with principles in human-centered design and affective computing, where the emphasis often shifts from purely functional solutions to fostering emotional engagement and visceral satisfaction. In experience design, this highlights the critical role of perceptual fluency and hedonic qualities—elements that ensure a product not only serves a purpose but also connects with users on a deeper, more emotional level. It suggests that in creating impactful experiences, we must design for delight as much as for utility, acknowledging that beauty and sensorial appeal are intrinsic to how users perceive and value a design.
